The proposed Neptune Road crosses under National Route 2 at approximately km 48.320.The project comprises of the upgrading of a 2.4 km section of existing National Route 2 Section 11 to dual carriageway (freeway) standard and the construction of a full cloverleaf systems interchange on the proposed Neptune Road (dual carriageway).
The project also includes the construction of a 1.5 km section of Neptune Road, which includes the construction of a proposed road over rail bridge facility where Neptune Road crosses the existing railway. The N2 in this section will be upgraded from 1 lane in each direction to 2 lanes in each direction. Neptune Road will be a six-lane dual carriageway road with a 5 m wide median and with an additional collector-distributor on each side.

Before any work could be started an environmental firm had to contacted, to identify and remove to a nursery facility all endangered and indigenous plants.
The contract entailed the construction of:
- 306 000 m³ fill
- 9.5 km of roads
- 2 000 m of drainage
- 30 000 m of ducting for future electrical and Telkom services
The project has had to be built in phases to facilitate both public and construction traffic that entailed planning and co-ordination with other contractors.
Rumdel Construction has endeavoured to assist SMME contractors to uplift themselves in skills and experience and helped to plan, programme and implement these works. |
