Rumdel Construction has been awarded a Contract for the Construction of the Road from Likalaneng to Thaba Tseka, km 0 to km 31. (Lot 1), and started in June 2006.

This contract constitutes the first phase of the upgrading of the 90 km road to a surfaced standard and will be carried out over the next 18 months. The contract cludes some 130 000 m3 crushing, 260 000m2 of asphalt surfacing, 130 000m3 earthworks, 215 000m3 hard excavation as well as the construction of a bridge over the Senqunyane river.

The contract for Phase 1 was awarded to Bambanani Joint Venture, a joint venture between Rumdel Construction and BEE partner Zingisa Construction cc

The Niassa contract comprises the rehabilitation of 315km of gravel road to a surfaced standard. The site is located in the far northern Niassa province of Mozambique, and the road runs from Litunde to the Cabo Delgado provincial Border.

The Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) is situated approximately 20 km north east of Port Elizabeth along National Route 2 Section 11 in the Eastern Cape Province.

The proposed Neptune Road crosses under National Route 2 at approximately km 48.320.The project comprises of the upgrading of a 2.4 km section of existing National Route 2 Section 11 to dual carriageway (freeway) standard and the construction of a full cloverleaf systems interchange on the proposed Neptune Road (dual carriageway).

The bridge was built in 1969 and has had no maintenance with the result that the piers are on the verge of total failure. This has been caused mainly by the steel rusting and bursting the concrete cover and then the exposed steel almost rusting away in some cases. The deck has to be supported and the piers removed and reconstructed whilst under traffic!!
